Dr. Mina Youhanna, President of the Global Conscience Organization for Human Rights, mourns with deep sadness the passing of former Tunisian President Fouad Mebazaa, who passed away after a career full of giving and dedication in the service of his country.
The deceased held many high-level positions that left a clear imprint on contemporary Tunisian history. He served as Acting President of the Republic after the Tunisian Constitutional Council declared him President. He also served as Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Director of National Security, and Mayor of Tunis. In addition, Fouad Mebazaa held the portfolios of Minister of Youth and Sports and Minister of Health in 1978, and was also Minister of Cultural Affairs and Information.
He also held high-level diplomatic positions, representing Tunisia as a delegate to the United Nations and its Ambassador to Morocco, as well as as Mayor of Carthage. The Global Conscience Organization for Human Rights expresses its sincere condolences to his esteemed family and extends its sympathy to the Tunisian people over this great loss, asking God Almighty to bestow His vast mercy upon him.
